hello, i bought my own UseNext Accountfor $8.00 a month, but it didnt work, i didnt get it, it said it was successful, but i didnt get any info, i contacted them, but they said i got 1 but no….

does anybody have a free UseNext account we can both share or you know where i can get a free one?

I have subscribed to the Usenext service, and I was wondering if the packets I download from them are encrypted (using SSL for exemple). I have sent them an enquiry twice, and they dont seem to want to answer my question directly.

They brag about being more secure than everyone else, by not keeping logs, but an unencrypted communication cant possibly be secure. Anyone along the way could analyse the packets and see whats being downlaoded.

I’m not a security expert, and i dont know how to tell if its secure or not. Can anyone help?
I do understand that the contents circulating on usenet do not use any encryption, I am talking about the link between the Usenext provider and my computer. I know Giganews offers a SSL service to secure the traffic form them to the customer which is what i worry about. The traffic which would permit to identify to whose IP the copyrighted material is being sent.
Any ISP sniffing the packets going through the news port can easily identify who is downloading what, without the hassle of having to go to the physical news service provider and look at the logs.

has surfthechannel changed, can’t find play links only download links to usenext or megavideo?

I was able to click on episode on surfthechannel and a player would would appear on right side with episode info on left. clicking on player would play episode. Now I click on episode and get a download link that takes me to usenext site. Why is player link gone?

BT Home Hub and usenet?

I am getting slow download speeds using newsleecher (170 kb/s ish). I can download from websites through windows explorer at speeds of up to 650 kb/s.
My parents have the same problem, and they also have the same BT package as me with the BT home hub.
I think BT use giganews servers, so i’m sure the problem is not from their end.
for some reason when i set my laptop up i managed to download at 650 kb/s through newsleecher, then one day it just went to 170 kb/s. I don’t know if I downloaded something that changed a setting or something but I cannot get it to speed up again.
My PC however, has always only managed 170 kb/s.
Do BT throttle usenet speeds? or is there a setting in the BT Home Hub that will allow it to download at the full capacity of my line??

I’m absolutely tearing my hair out with this.
does anyone else have the same problem??

i have an giganews account with 20 connects.. when i start downloading, comcast speed boosts me up to 2.6M/S and then drops back down to 768K/S.. is there any tricks make it go faster/ exploit comcast speed boost. i noticed alti.bin usenet program has a simple button to connect and disconnect all connections, i wonder if disconnecting and reconnecting will exploit the comcast speed boost, were i disconnect and reconnect over and over after 30 seconds…. grabbit doesnt seem to have this functionality,,,

Seriously… why RapidShare over torrents, usenet, p2p?

1) If you wish to download a 2GB game, this is impossible without a Premium Account.
2) If you have a premium account, you have a 25GB bandwidth limit over 3 days!!
3) It’s not very cheap, USENET offers better performance for the same price.

You can easily use USENET and Torrents for this! Torrents are very fast nowadays and USENET is always maximum speed.

I need a file renamer that works on Outlook Express emails.?

I get emailed embedded jpegs from a Usenet clipping service. They send them one per email. The problem is that they name them all the same filename. !abc_BMMP.jpg for example.
I want to save them in another folder outside of OE, but to do that I must rename each jpeg or they want to overwrite. Is there a renamer that works in OE or can you suggest a work around? I have over two thousand so renaming them one at a time is not an option.

I used to think YA would be a great place to discuss economics and other ideas. Now I realize the bitter truth it is just a bunch of kids trying to get someone else to do their homework.

I think YA needs to more like usenet or a blog where you can engage in discussion instead of just ask and answer a question. The latter makes it so all those questions that are really important and have no specific answers can be investigated. Otherwise you just get a lot of homework questions. What is the origin of the use of Re: to mean ‘subject’?

I’m sure everyone has seen one or another form of it: a memo, post, or message with the obligatory ‘to’ and ‘from’ fields, followed by ‘Re:’ and then the subject of the message.

It’s much more common online (in all the forum messages, usenet posts, etc.), so I’m not even sure whether it went from the virtual world into real life, or the other way around.

I always assumed Re stood for ‘reply,’ but I’ve been doubting this, because it’s often used out of this context.

So, tell me, what does ‘re’ stand for and (if it’s something non-obvious) how did it originate?
Ah, so the popular opinion is that ‘re’ stands for regarding.
